The Bitcoin StandardAcademy

Dr. Ammous is teaching a series of online courses on the economics of Bitcoin, as well as economics courses in the tradition of the Austrian school of economics. Courses are taught through live lectures and interactive live seminars.

Registering for the online lecture will provide you access to a weekly 1-hour lecture and class notes. You will be sent the link to attend each lecture 1 hour before it begins. To register for a course, just buy it below and be sure to include an email address to which you will receive the lecture invitation.

Seminars are online discussion sessions led by Dr. Ammous in which the weekly readings and the weekly lecture are discussed in detail. Seminars will include 12 students only, and registration is by application. Students applying for the seminars must be taking the course’s lectures at the same time, or had taken them previously.

Lecture and seminar schedules will be updated regularly on this website, and sent out to subscribers to the mailing list. Please sign up to the mailing list below to stay updated.

ECO21: The Bitcoin Standard I

In this course, Dr. Ammous will teach the material of his book The Bitcoin Standard. A 1-hour lecture will be delivered online once a week, for 10 weeks, at the times listed below. Lectures are delivered live, but can be accessed online at any time until the course ends. Students can ask questions and vote on which questions they would like to see addressed at the end of the lecture.

The course will require a large amount of readings, as detailed in the syllabus. Students should expect at least 50 hours of reading for satisfactory completion of the course.

Online Discussion Seminars

Discussion seminars will contain a maximum of 12 students, and will meet for one hour a week for the ten-week of duration of the course. Discussion seminars will be held:

Registration for the seminar costs $600, but requires application and preapproval. If interested in attending the seminar, please email [email protected] with a brief application containing one paragraph describing your academic and professional background, and another paragraph explaining why you are interested in taking this course. There are no academic qualifications required to take this course, but Dr. Ammous will try to select for students whose interests, backgrounds, and experiences can contribute positively to the discussion.

This course covers the seven research papers written by Dr. Ammous since the publication of The Bitcoin Standard. Students who register will be provided with digital copies of the seven paper for this course in pdf, epub, and mobi formats.

The material of these papers applies the framework and concepts introduced in The Bitcoin Standard to analyze broader and more complex economic questions. Students will be expected to have read The Bitcoin Standard as a pre-requisite for taking this course.

ECO11: Introduction to Economics

This course introduces the basic concepts of economics from the perspective of the Austrian school. Based primarily on Murray Rothbard's Man, Economy, and State, this course covers the concepts of human action, scarcity, opportunity cost, time preference, capital, trade, prices, and indirect exchange.
